Tracy informed him of her pregnancy. Maddox was angry. Tracy tried to convince him to keep their baby but he was firmly determined against the idea. Maddox raved and ranted against this latest development but Tracy managed to convince him that it was an accidental pregnancy. For gawd sakes, Maddox was in his late fifties and too old to be a daddy. He was a sugar daddy and a stingy one at that.
Maddox paid for Tracy’s abortion. It was a messy procedure as she had an ectopic pregnancy. The fetus was fertilized and developing in her fallopian tube. Tracy was in pain in the weeks leading up to the termination of her pregnancy. Her plan at blackmailing Maddox into proposing to her had failed. Not only that, she was unable to keep her baby at any rate because her baby was fertilized and growing outside her womb. Lucky, lucky, Maddox. He escaped by reason of pure chance and good luck.

She suffered pain and a difficult recovery. Maddox bribed her by way of a gold chain and pendant. He showed little sympathy for her otherwise.
Tracy gave up her housekeeping odd jobs around town. She could hardly walk without pain and couldn’t work to maintain her keep. She failed to pay her rent and was evicted. Having nowhere to turn, Tracy bought her ticket home with what little remaining money she had.
Meanwhile, Maddox was feeling troubled. His conscience started to prick at his consciousness. He had nightmares even when he was unconscious. He thought he saw shadows and heard sounds. Maddox talked to some of his relatives in his vain attempts to get his load off his chest.
Slowly, Maddox became obsessed with his sanity. He claimed he saw and heard voices. A part of him knew there were no shadows and voices. The other part of him knew that he had wronged two people. He thought he was being punished. Maddox felt guilty. He thought he killed his baby by agreeing to the abortion. He thought the shadows and voices he heard were from his baby. Sometimes, he thought the voices were accusing him of having committed crimes. He killed his baby and sent away his baby’s mother.
