“Stories Fiction Books” presents a ghost story. A ghost who was heard but not seen is featured in this short story for Stories Fiction books.
I was staying in a house on the edge of a cliff when one night, something unusual happened. I heard sounds. It was a night like any other night. The entire family had dinner and retired to bed. Or rather, we retired to our individual pursuits. Many of us had some reading material in the form of newspapers, books or magazines.
My family gathered around to ask one another what could have been making the sounds. They were noises like bricks being thrown or unloaded and heavily dumped on the ground. “Clink! Clonk!” The sounds continued.
My family and I switched on the light at the only balcony overlooking the valley below the cliff where our house stood. We strained our eyes and cranked our necks to try to see what created the loud brick noises.
Needless to say, we were unsuccessful. It was pitch black. We failed to see anything. Who could be unloading bricks in the dead of the night? The thought of anything supernatural did not cross our minds. We had stayed in the house for some years and nothing suggested we would encounter anything extraordinary.
The night was cold, much colder than usual. We flooded our house with lights and tried to see what happened. We couldn’t see anything beyond a few feet in front. The night was pitch black.
We went to sleep. As spooked as we were, life went on. Tomorrow was another day to deal with so we had to delay satisfying our curiosities until the next day.
Daylight broke and dawn came no sooner than anticipated. There was nothing to suggest that someone had been moving something noisy in the dark. Nothing was disturbed in the surroundings. We had no idea what caused the noises in the night. Was there a ghost who made the fearsome noises? We never knew for the incident never repeated itself again.
